The Anti-Politics and Anti-Comedy of Norm Macdonald

When Norm Macdonald passed away last month at the age of sixty-one, most major outlets ran obituaries praising his long career in comedy. Many of us were reminded how funny Macdonald was and took to YouTube to dip into the deep reservoir of his material.
Notable figures of the online right did the very same thing, some of them claiming Norm Macdonald as one of their own. While they may have overstated their case, it can nonetheless be difficult to square appreciation for Macdonald’s comedy with his ambiguously conservative politics.

The Colin Powell I Knew

X

Story Stream

recent articles

Since his passing, Colin Powell has been lauded as a statesman, patriot, and trailblazer for Black Americans. Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg bragged about NATO’s status as the oldest and most successful alliance in modern history.
But underneath the veneer of pious regularity lie problems, or at the very least disputes.

We Can Take Back the USA by Modeling the Hero Southwest Airline Pilots!

A month ago, my brand-new bestseller, “The Great Patriot Protest & Boycott Book,” came out. A month seems like a lifetime ago. What happened over this past month validates the strategy I laid out. It changes everything.
My book lays out the case that America and American exceptionalism are under vicious attack. We are facing a radical communist takeover of the United States. I believe we must respond with the tactics and strategies of Martin Luther King Jr. — with strikes, boycotts, protests, intimidation and CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE.

The Left Leans Into Political Idolatry

Political idolatry, like crabgrass, is nearly impossible to get rid of. We want a winning message, we wish to sell it and get support for it, we tout the sizzle of what we stand for to one and sundry — and we forget about the steak.
The high moments of freedom have involved not the recitation of democratic dogmas but rather clear-eyed, daring, and courageous response to severe challenges that would have not responded to political cliches or the tactics responding only to the challenge of yesterday.

Letters to the Editor — Oct. 24, 2021

Stiffing retireesThe Municipal Labor Council sold out 250,000 retired city workers by colluding with private insurance companies to weaken the excellent health coverage they have been receiving for many years (“Fix, Don’t End, City’s Health Savings,” Editorial, Oct. 20)
The United Federation of Teachers and other municipal unions have sacrificed the interests of their retirees by promoting Medicare Advantage as a better health-care choice than SeniorCare, the fine Medicare/Medigap plan they were receiving.
