There’s only one reasonable response to the GOP losers who undermine democracy

Larry Elder was the leading GOP candidate in California’s recall election Tuesday. The talk-show host lost by a mile. He conceded last night, but not before raising doubts about the election’s legitimacy.
As the Editorial Board‘s Lindsay Beyerstein wrote:

In the post-Trump era, Republican losers follow a simple formula: Cry fraud, file frivolous lawsuits and fundraise off of them. You will lose in court, because there is no fraud, but it doesn’t matter because every loss burnishes the GOP’s “stabbed in the back” narrative.

The California recall is a microcosm of what has become the GOP’s strategy of trickery

The stakes of the California recall election of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom couldn’t be higher. Voting, either by mail or in person, ends Tuesday, and if Newsom is recalled, the bluest state in the country will not just have a Republican governor, but Larry Elder, a right-wing talk radio host who is a loon even by the standards of the party that elected Donald Trump.

Fox News has been setting up a new ‘Big Lie’ in case the GOP loses California’s recall race

More recent polling indicates that California Gov. Gavin Newsom may survive the GOP recall and block the ascendance of a know-nothing radio show host who once served as a mentor to a young Stephen Miller. No matter what the polling says, the fact is that Larry Elder poses an existential threat to the state (and nation), and Californians must get out and vote no on recall.
Right-wing propagandists are also acting—but not necessarily to get out the vote.

Inside the State Department’s Operation to Evacuate 124,000 Afghans

Almost everything you think you know about how the United States Department of State handled the evacuation from Afghanistan is wrong. And not just wrong, but so egregiously wrong you have to ask yourself why.
The narrative has been that State was caught flat-footed by the events following the fall of Kabul in mid-August, turning its back on Americans and our Afghan allies while damaging the United States’ standing in the world. None of this is true.
The State Department sent out the first of its 19 alerts urging American citizens to leave Afghanistan in April of this year.

Guerrero: How anti-California propaganda and racism are driving the recall

In the summer of 2019, as early efforts to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom floundered, right-wing commentators launched a smear campaign against California to discredit its progressive policies and stoke anger at its leaders.
They co-opted a myth popularized by white supremacists, neo-Nazis and border vigilantes in the 1990s across San Diego and Orange County, and which conservative organizations such as the Claremont Institute have spent years peddling: California is a “Third World” state decaying due to racial diversity.

In February 2020, at the start of the drive to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom, axing the widely popular Democrat was the fringe project of anti-maskers, QAnon believers, and the state’s ever-shrinking hard right. For months, that’s what it remained.

Newt Gingrich: Biden’s Afghanistan surrender – here’s what it means for 20th anniversary of Sept. 11

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Joe Biden probably thought this Sept. 11, the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, would be a great moment for his presidency. All American troops would be out of Afghanistan. Our country’s longest war would be over. And he’d be the guy who had the courage to end it.
Instead, we may well have hundreds if not thousands of Americans hiding across Afghanistan, terrified of the Taliban’s barbarism. Remember, the media only reports on Kabul, the Afghan capital, but there are Americans all over the country.
