Reagan’s Warning About The Fragility of Freedom Has Always Been Relevant — But Never More Urgent

It seems more than apropos to assess the legacy and words of President Ronald Reagan at this juncture in our history; it is an absolute necessity. Reagan not only understood the political reality of the world in front of him, he had a prescience of the political world that might be coming if Americans did not demonstrate the same resolve that won the revolution.
The insouciance of the Biden administration is unrelenting as it watches inflation rise, spends trillions on phony infrastructure bills and blithely observes the southern border evaporate.

Alarm Over Queen Elizabeth’s Health Reveals a Harsh Royal Truth

Now that it has been revealed—24 hours after the event—that the Queen has spent a night in hospital and was not, as the palace press corps were informed, “resting” at Windsor Castle, there are complaints that, once again, the messaging is bad and making the situation worse.
For sure, trying to conceal the hospital visit just raises the question: what else is not being revealed? And, inevitably, it renews speculation about whether the Queen will have finally to give up her day job.

De Blasio blames everyone but himself for Rikers Island debacle

Friday, The Post ran exclusive photos from inside Rikers Island’s Otis Bantum jailhouse over the summer. They are horrific: dozens of men lying head-to-foot on the floor. Inmates napping near open toilets. Visiting the jail in September, Mayor de Blasio opted not to go in. Still, he said, “the whole thing upsets me.”
Why? The overcrowding was planned.
When confronted with Rikers, the mayor blames everyone and everything but himself. He blames his predecessors. “When I came into office, there were immense problems here,” he said last month.

Texas Republicans’ Attacks on Trans Kids and Abortion Are Part of the Same Sinister Strategy

In the coming days, Texas Governor Greg Abbott will sign a bill banning trans kids in his state from playing on a sports team that matches their gender identity. No matter that the state already has a restrictive policy; as it stands, if a trans girl in Texas wishes to play on the girl’s volleyball team or run track and field with her peers, she has to modify her birth certificate, a process that requires no small amount of time and money. The new bill, H.B. 25, removes even that option. Dressed up in language asserting the need to protect young girls, we should recognize what H.B.

I Was Wrong About Joe Manchin

Back in winter 2021, the media-industrial complex evaluating conservative Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin was devoted to predicting the role he would play in the Biden administration. It was still a time when we weren’t sure what the most conservative Democrat in the caucus—the last major Dem standing in his deep-red state, one who’d voted with Republicans about 50 percent of the time during the Trump years—would do now that his party was in power. Longtime D.C.
