Since 1947, one topic in education has regularly come up at the Supreme Court more often than any other: disputes over religion.
That year, in Everson v. Board of Education, the justices upheld a New Jersey law allowing school boards to reimburse parents for transportation costs to and from schools, including religious ones.

Editorial: Please Supreme Court, do not take abortion rights away from any women, anywhere

Consider the array of civil and human rights protected by Supreme Court landmark rulings in the last century: Public schools cannot be racially segregated. A person of one race has the right to marry someone of another race. A person has the right to marry someone of the same sex. And a woman has a right to a legal abortion.
Today, all but one of those landmark rulings are accepted and undisputed precedents. Only the right to an abortion, established by a Supreme Court ruling in Roe vs. Wade in 1973, has fueled intense resistance.

Fairfax County Schools Set to Return Sexually Explicit Books to High School Libraries

Fairfax County Public Schools announced Tuesday that two books that were criticized for having sexually-explicit scenes will be returned to its high school libraries following a review that found the books had literary value.
A pair of committees was formed in response to parent complaints that the books were inappropriate for a juvenile audience. In September, two speakers decried Lawn Boy by Jonathan Evison and Gender Queer: A Memoir by Maia Kobabe at a school board meeting.

The Loudoun County, Va., sheriff says Loudoun County Public Schools was notified in July that a transgender student who sexually assaulted a female student in one of the district’s high schools had been arrested. The school district then chose to move the student to a different school, where he allegedly sexually assaulted another student in early October.
